Artists include Alexander Calder, Joaquín Torres-García, Jesús Rafael Soto, Gyula Kosice, Lygia Clark, Ellsworth Kelly, Geraldo de Barros and many others. Etching and Mixed Media – 26 x 25” from Target Gallery website
“Meredith Setser has two works in the show, one a magnificent combination of mixed media and etching, Angry Dragon II, and Crewel Wasting Disease, etching, resin polymer clay. Both colorful images seem to spring from an organic source. They appear to be something wonderful viewed through a microscope.”

BAU-XI GALLERY OPENS NEW SPACE DEDICATED TO PHOTOGRAPHY

Image credit: Bau-Xi Photo – Artist / Photographer: Adam Makarenko, *
“Passing on a Curve”, edition of 10- chromogenic print – 32 x 24 in.
“BAU-XI PHOTO, opening in January 2010, exhibits photography by Canadian and International artists across from the AGO – (Toronto, Ontario, Canada).
As Bau-Xi maintains its commitment to showcasing contemporary artistic talent, it saw the need for a dedicated, separate gallery to exhibit photography. This is an exciting transition as Bau-Xi Gallery has been a presence in the Canadian art gallery scene for almost 45 years. The new contemporary 2400 square foot space sits across from the Art Gallery of Ontario in a renovated Victorian house, just steps away from Bau-Xi Gallery’s current location. Bau-Xi Photo is committed to showcasing fine art photography by emerging, mid-career, and established artists.
Eight Canadian and International photographers will kick-off the new artist stable, with an opening exhibition by Toronto artist Adam Makarenko. Adam’s exhibition, which features mystical photographs of hand-constructed dioramas, opens Saturday January 9th, from 2-4 PM. Other gallery artists include Zoë Jaremus, Joshua Jensen-Nagle, Ferit Kuyas, Eamon MacMahon, Anthony Redpath, Chris Shepherd and Toby Smith.”

* – “Adam Makarenko grew up in a rural northern Ontario mining town called Atikokan. His artwork explores human influence on nature, a theme undoubtedly seeded by his upbringing in a town boasting two of the largest ore mines in the world. He constructs each photograph as a diorama, sculpting each element by hand and photographing the set. Makarenko uses these constructed realities to tell a story, otherwise impossible through conventional photography. Makarenko has garnered incredible notoriety for an emerging photographer, including having won the coveted Bright Spark Award, published in The Magenta Foundations Flash Forward 2008 annual publication.”
