Plein Air Digital Painting
Taking digital art OUTSIDE!!
I have always admired the artists who with paint & canvas or pencil and sketch pad head out to the great outdoors to capture their subjects en plein air! Might this be the tool of choice for digital artists who would like to join in on the Plein Air movement? hmmm, I wonder eh?

above images from www.yankodesign.com
Canadian designer Yana Kilmava has developed a conceptual product that would help the novice artist have more confidence in learning how to paint. Virtuo looks very similar to the traditional paint pallets used by artists for hundreds of years, with the added bonus of modern technology. There are no wasted paints, no confusing mixing of colors and you don’t have to be an experienced artist to create really beautiful pieces of artwork.
Virtuo includes an art pallet, a charger, 5 different art tools and works by electromagnetism so no worry about quick battery loss.
Even though it was designed with the inexperienced artist in mind, Virtuo can also be used by the more professional digital artists who are also experienced in the traditional forms of creating art. At the present time, Virtuo is only in concept form, but I can hope that it is made available to the public sometime in the near future. snippet from link via: www.yankodesign.com

The Business Side of Art
Many good art resource websites talk about how as an artist you should also take time to keep the business side of your art organized. A few springs ago I had researched online for software that might help an artist to set up an inventory database and simply keep everything in one spot.
I went back to take another look and below is a list of various software packages that may perform the tasks you may need. I have not tried nor purchased any of the packages, so unfortunately I cannot recommend or suggest one over the other. It’s just a list that can help get you thinking about tending to the business side of your art.

Wireless Digital Photo Frame
Email pictures to your loved ones, they’ll see them instantly on the PicWing photo frame.
“PicWing wants to simplify the digital photo scene by bringing out a wireless digital photo frame that users reach via e-mail.
“Digital photo frames are a great idea, but the current photo frames are pretty bad,” says PicWing co-founder Enrique Rodriguez. “It takes a lot of effort to get your pictures onto them. We’re trying to let you push pictures directly to the frame, so your non-technical relatives can look at the frame and there they are.” To make a photo show up on PicWing’s frame, all you have to do is send it to the frame’s unique e-mail address, whether from your home computer or your cell phone.

Wordpress 2.6 News
I was so very happy when I read Kyle’s post over Hack Wordpress today about some goodies/features the fellows at Wordpress are working on for the next update 2.6.
- WordPress Auto-Upgrade
- Plugin Auto-Installation
- Theme preview
If there is one thing that I get the sweats over is upgrading my Wordpress to the next version. I am still fairly new when it comes to Wordpress, and that last update I was so worried that I would mess something up in my files and everything would disappear . . . haha! No, but seriously the Auto-Upgrade feature is one I would truly welcome! The Auto-Instillation plugin would be cool too, although I can live with manually uploading them. Theme Preview is a great idea.
We should really show our support for the Wordpress Developers, and have a dedicated Wordpress Day!!
You guys deserve it, you’re awesome! :o)
What is an Inukshuk
Inukshuk (singular), meaning “likeness of a person” in Inuktitut (the Inuit language) is a stone figure made by the Inuit. The plural is inuksuit. The Inuit make inuksuit in different forms and for different purposes: to show directions to travellers, to warn of impending danger, to mark a place of respect, or to act as helpers in the hunting of caribou. Similar stone figures were made all over the world in ancient times, but the Arctic is one of the few places where they still stand. An inukshuk can be small or large, a single rock, several rocks balanced on each other, round boulders or flat. Inuit tradition forbids the destruction of inuksuit.

images from the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games website
The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games emblem is a *contemporary interpretation of the inukshuk. It is called Ilanaaq which is the Inuktitut word for friend. This is the symbol of Canada’s Games – our friend who will help us greet the world in 2010.

This beautifully hand crafted Amethyst Inukshuk caught my eye,
it is available for purchase online @ Lake Superior Store

Canadian Artist Daivd Williams hand-crafts unique, distinctive Inukshuks from beach glass worn smooth & free of sharp edges by its time in the water.
David says: “Remember, no two are alike so each Inukshuk will have its own personality”.
If you are interested in having one made for you, you can contact David directly through his website: www.silverpeak.ca , you can also read more, see more: here

I had never seen nor heard about “Inuksuit” until I moved to Thunder Bay. It was while driving along a local highway that I saw my first one and questioned what it was, what it might represent.
