Remembrance Day-Nov. 11, 2008

“In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.”

- John McCrae, In Flanders Fields and Other Poems.
Edited by Sir Andrew Macphail, Toronto, Briggs, 1919.

Canadian Red Cross “Restoring Family Links Program”

Reconnecting loved ones across the world.

The chaos and confusion that accompany war and natural disasters often separate families when they need each other most.

The Canadian Red Cross Restoring Family Links program helps people in Canada to re-establish contact with immediate family members after separation due to war, internal conflict, natural disaster and other humanitarian crises.

Similarly, individuals in other countries can place inquires to find relatives in Canada through the network of 185 National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) throughout the world. Restoring Family Links is at the heart of the humanitarian mandate of the Canadian Red Cross, and is a vital component of the protections mandated under several articles of the Geneva conventions.

Key services offered by this program include outreach activities, a tracing service, the distribution of family messages, and assistance and support in the family reunification process.

Each year more than 1,000 people seek help from the Canadian Red Cross to re-establish contact with their family members. © www.redcross.ca website

Silent Dance Party

image credit: daily dose of imagery - photographer Sam Javanrouh

Now how cool is this!
Tons of people dancing to the same tune, lights flashing to the beat of the music, but no HUGE speakers, NO SOUND!! Last night (Sat Jun 7/Sun Jun 8, 12am-2am) @ Yonge-Dundas Square, Toronto

“Bring your mp3 player and headphones to Yonge-Dundas Square and dance silently to a set compiled by DJ AC Slater, with interactive lighting by Gabe Sawhney, Patrick Dinnen and David McCallum. This event is (the coolest) part of the Light on Your Feet program of dance lessons and general movement encouragement happening on the square.” snippet from: www.spacing.ca

Naestved International Exhibition of Contemporary Mini Prints
Opening Reception March 28, 2008 - Naestved, Denmark

I was thrilled this morning to receive an email from Torben Soeborg, the Project Co-ordinator in which he included some photos from the exhibition’s opening reception. It would always be a dream to have attended, but as the saying goes, . . . I was there in spirit! I look forward to viewing the exhibition catalogue and hopefully expanding on the “Moo Series” in the very near future.
