“I cannot paint from either memory or imagination. I must have a piece of the external world in front of me, then I just start to draw as spontaneously as possible.” - quote artist Joseph Plaskett from article “Artist out of his time”, written by Grania Litwin, Times Colonist, Sat. Sept.6, 2008

“He is a fascinating artist because he has been involved in the whole Canadian art scene for 70 years. He painted with A.Y. Jackson in 1944.”

I came across an announcement for an exhibition opening in Victoria, BC. tomorrow, Sept 7. The artist- Joseph Plaskett, is one of Canada’s most talented and established contemporary painters. The exhibition at Winchester Galleries celebrates Plaskett’s 90th birthday, and brings together over 100 oils and pastels spanning the last five decades.
